Tax Staff Accountant


Overview:

Johnson Messal Bristow PLLC is seeking a Tax Staff Accountant to join our firm.  The ideal candidate will be a recent college graduate looking to develop entry level skills in a CPA firm. The work of Tax Staff is the foundation on which the work of others is based. As Tax Staff gain a higher level of experience and proficiency, they are given more difficult assignments and greater responsibility.

responsibilities:

  • Develop appropriate technical proficiencies and skills necessary to meet client needs and expectations.

  • Understand and comply with firm policies and professional standards.

  • Complete projects in a reasonable time with accurate and presentable results.

  • Communicate and ask questions to understand assigned projects and tasks.

  • Be a team player.

  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, integrity, and honesty.

  • Increase skills and knowledge through mentorship from senior staff and personal study.

  • Understand firm services and how they relate and support each other.

  • Be presentable and professional in both appearance and communication.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Has general knowledge of basic principles of individual and business taxation.

  • Understands financial statements, journal entries, and recurring book/tax differences.

  • Prepares basic returns within budget as assigned.

  • Prepares and self-review returns consistent with prior year, ensuring all data is included.

  • Uses basic research tools to answer questions during return preparation.

  • Learns new software quickly and becomes proficient in firm software and programs.

  • Prepare work papers and schedules that show clear and logical thought processes.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in field of Accounting

  • Interested in pursuing a Master’s Degree in Taxation (preferred)

  • 0-3 years tax experience
